Taking on Canada

Here are some pictures from the last few days. Today is our last day in Banff. Tomorrow we drive to Glacier Park and from there we start our second segment, in Big Horn Basin, Montana. Banff has been amazing, it is one of the most beautiful places we have ever been. The last few days we did forefield mapping for both the Athabasca Glacier and Peyto Glacier. All of our problem sets were due today and then we hiked Fairview Mountain with Joey and Reed. It was not great weather today but it was still a fun hike.

Driving to Athabasca

Pretty flowers in the forefield of Athabasca Glacier

The whole group, professors and TAs included

Driving away from Athabasca for our last time

STRETCH 12F (we're still practicing and hope to have it mastered by the end of the stretch!)

We stopped and went swimming in one of the glacial lakes, it was refreshing!

In front of Bow Lake with some nice blue water

This is a wildlife bridge, they have them every few miles along the main road so that animals can cross.

Walking through the Peyto forefield

Professor Bob showing us the forefield from up high, Peyto Lake in the background.

Hiking out of Peyto Valley, the water was bluer than the sky!

Hiking back to the vans after a day of mapping

David's scenic trees (it's a very artsy shot)

This is Cat, she is usually behind the scenes taking photos of us, but we let her in this one!

Hiking Fairview Mountain today, on the hike up there were some clouds coming in...

The top of Fairview Mountain (Joey, Reed, David). It was very rainy and windy on top but we made it!

These two pictures are from a couple of days ago, here is Izzy in her glacier gear.

And here is Davey in his.

Dave drinking from the glacier meltwater, yummy!

Tonight the professors are cooking for us, we're eating lasagna! And then we pack up and head out at 7 tomorrow morning, we'll post another update soon but we don't know when we will have internet next. There is good chance we won't have internet in the Bighorn Basin, but we will see.

See you when we see you...
