We made it to Banff! Sorry we've taken so long to update the blog, but we've been very busy. Our daily schedule is breakfast at 7:00, leave at 8:00, drive to the glacier and go on the glacier from 10:00 to 4:00 and then get back around 5:30, workout, eat, do some homework, and go to bed as soon as possible. But, it has been awesome!!!
The first day we drove up to Banff from Calgary and stopped to see some large scale glacial features. Here are some beautiful photos from our day.
This is the hostel we are staying at in Lake Louise, it is very nice. We have been having amazing food, our TAs bought a ton of groceries before we got here and we make bagged lunches everyday and then cook really good dinners.
This is a picture from our first day on the glacier, it was bad weather, very cloudy and a mix of rain and snow. It was really cold and wet but a lot of fun to see the crevasses and moulins.
David got to go up to an ice fall yesterday during the snow storm, he was cold but toughed it out.
This is a picture of the ice fall full of crevasses.
On the way home it started clearing and these popped out of the clouds!
Today we had a beautiful sunny day for the glacier. David was studying in the forefield and Isabel was studying up on the glacier. Tomorrow our groups swap.
Here we are in front of the Athabasca Glacier where we have been studying.
This is a moulin, those of us who were on the glacier today, got to be roped in to our Professor, Bob, and walk out to the edge of a moulin. It is where water flows all the way to the bottom of the glacier, they are about 250 meters deep! You don't want to fall in!
Our first day here, a big group of us ran up to Lake Louise, it was gorgeous. Yesterday we found a playground with Gerben and did some strength, and today we did bounding intervals up to Lake Louise.
That's all for now folks. Peace out,
Ice Cougar and Dragon Slayer
p.s. those are our new nicknames
Great update! Don't go bounding into any chasms please.
