Arches!!!

Here are pictures from our day in Arches National Park. It was spectacular! We learned how arches form and we saw Window Arch, Double Arches, Delicate Arch, Landscape Arch, and Double O Arch. Arches form from erosion of weak rock layers, chemical weathering, and wind in sandstone fins formed from the folding of the Moab Anticline. Below is the sun coming up through Window Arch.

Carl teaching us at Window Arch.

Looking from the other side of Window Arch with another arch in the background. So artsy!

Then we went to Double Arch. Gerben took a picture of Iz and Dave.

Looking up at Double Arch. It was a little cloudy and cold in the morning but it cleared up pretty fast.

Joey inside Double Arch.

Delicate Arch.

Delicate Arch sits all by itself with a big open area and a bowl around it. Here is Izzy with the Delicate Arch in the background.

Delicate Arch from the back.

Looking down at the Delicate Arch viewers.

Dave chased after a chipmunk to get this picture.

Kelly jumping in Delicate Arch, we missed the jump by a little bit!

Walking back from Delicate Arch.

Izzy and Gerben.

Isabel.

David.

We ate lunch at Edward Abbey's picnic place.

The moon is peaking up behind the sandstone fin. Fins erode and sometimes become arches.

Davey in a canyon.

Landscape Arch, the arch is over 300 feet long! It used to be bigger, but back in 1991 a big chunk fell off.

Izzy with Landscape Arch.

Artsy shot of Landscape Arch.

Contrail!!

Walking from Landscape Arch to Double O Arch. It was a lot of hiking to get to the arches. We got to walk through some great scenery!

Liza and Jen at a lookout.

Ari, Ying Qi, Shelby, and Sam R.

John and Sam S.

Double O Arch! There is a big one and a smaller one beneath it.

Andy, Dave, and David CS went way up high!

The other side of Double O Arch.

We found a butt! Dave's matches it!

We are making friendship bracelets now. We're about to go to bed and get ready for a full day of biking! We are camping again in Zion. We may put up a small post tomorrow night, but if not we'll see you in a few days from Cedar City, UT or Bishop, CA.
